I Didn’t Pack This Gym Item for First Aid… But It Was a Lifesaver

Hello Reader, ✉️ Monday Momentum #31
Well, hello there, my Fit Travel Tribe! Today’s Monday Momentum is here to quench your thirst...
⚡💧ELECTROLYTE STYLE 💧⚡
Because this week’s edition is brought to you by: bad luck, very good people, and one tiny thing I randomly kept in my bag for months… and never thought I’d actually need.
Until I really did.
I guess sometimes what you pack for fitness ends up saving you in a very different way. Let’s rewind ⬇️
🌟Notes from the Fit Travel Trail
Bonjour from Morocco! 🇲🇦 (I'm excited to revive that dormant French in my brain)
🍷 New Year’s in Sofia Quiet night, great French red wine, and starting Game of Thrones with my partner - very cozy, very happy.
✈️About 72 hours later, I landed in Tangier in the northern part of Africa (I got to sip hot, sweet mint tea and wave at Spain from across the water).
😻 Cue me petting LOTS of cats (they are everywhere like in Türkiye!)
🥶 Getting chilly in Chefchaouen (the "blue city") up in the mountains (hostels don't have heating so I wore all my clothes all the time)
🤮 Aaaaand sadly getting food poisoning my first night in Rabat....YIKES!
The next day of exploring? ❌ Out of commission & hardly left my bed
The hostel staff were absolute angels! ✅ Made me fresh orange juice and tea ✅Surprised me at night with rice and egg delivered to my room
Halfway through my recovery day however....guess what I found buried in my bag?!
👉 A ratty old packet of electrolytes I’d been carrying forever. Originally packed for workouts. Completely forgotten.
I think I literally uttered the words "oh thank God!"
Day after was mild exploring and today was filled with a light workout, long bus ride, and a new city! Currently in Fez for 3 nights and splurging on a private room.
Always remember, recovery is part of the active travel lifestyle.
Now...here are some photos from MOROCCO!!!
Hot, sweet mint tea is MOST DEF all the rage (if you can find a place that makes it well). On my last day in Tangier, I could make out some land mass across the water (SPAIN!!)
The famous Hassan Tower in Rabat - the unfinished minaret of what was intended to be the world's LARGEST mosque (*keywords* unfinished + intended)
The inside of this hidden gem is intended to be for curious travelers only...it is NOT listed on Google maps! You duck your head and navigate the small house maze of incredible pottery
The perfectly timed "pss pss" for the photo op in Chefchaouen
This cutie slept on my lap for 20 minutes and then the next day immediately climbed on my shoulders to perch
Sunset + Blue City + Cat!
The famous Fez tannery (aka the leather factory)....and, now after an evening debate in my head...I've realized it might be time to upgrade my large, travel purse!

🥖✨ Mindful Eating on Vacation (Without the Guilt)
Cold weather. Foreign kitchens. Zero desire to cook. Suddenly it’s bread, potatoes, and whatever’s easiest.
Honestly...this was ME last week! Sighing and feeling sad that "my eating was off."
During moments like this, our brain might cue:🫠
PAUSE.
Vacation eating doesn’t need shame attached to it.
One carb-heavy stretch isn’t failure - it’s a moment, not a life sentence.
Cue this instead: 💪
If travel food guilt sneaks in, this post will help you:
Stop policing your meals on the road
Listen to what your body actually needs while traveling
Next stop after Fez? Marrakesh, and nearby sits Mount Toubkal. (Though I'm not climbing it this trip) I actually just heard about it while chatting with my partner's friends two weeks ago...🤣
🏔️ Why it’s special
Highest peak in North Africa!!
~4,167 meters (13,671 ft)
Atlas Mountains = rugged + stunning
🥾 What to know
You do need a local guide
Usually done over 2 days
Popular, but still feels adventurous
Curious about the trek?
G Adventures is a very reputable & popular active travel company
For some silly reason (that my partner knows all too well) I frequently don't pack medicine and I forget that I can trudge to a pharmacy if I get sick... But also...who wants to walk to a pharmacy after getting tackled???
This week’s lesson: Small Items Matter. (And a crucial reminder for me to keep packing these in the future)
🧰 Always in my bag (non-negotiable)
Band-aids / blister care
Pain reliever (ibuprofen or similar)
Hand sanitizer
Tissues (never optional)
⚡ “Just in Case” items I swear by
Electrolyte packets (YES, this!)
General flu/cold powder
Expectorant for congestion
Antihistamines
These weigh almost nothing!
But they can save: 👉Your trip 👉Your wallet 👉A hospital visit 👉Even just a sad, solo trudge to the pharmacy
Always on my mind: More money for more travel! It's often worth a little homework for those savings 💸
⚡Biweekly Boost: Quote of the Week
I can always spare a few extra minutes to a kitty who wants to be held
“
Preparation doesn't mean pessimism.
It means freedom.
