[MM]: Going SOLO for the YOLO

Hello Reader,

Heya Fit Travel Tribe!

For today's Monday Momentum, let's talk about going S-O-L-O!

Above-the-fold musings inspired by wanting to give a BIG shoutout to my mom for tackling her first solo multi-day hike! 🌟

Let's talk solo travels (whether it be hopping on an airplane, venturing out on a trail, or even dining alone in another country).

It’s been a while since I took my first solo trip to Portugal in 2018 (just for 5 days between two group tours), and I remember how nerve-wracking it wasβ€”especially the thought of navigating public transit on my own in a foreign country (the most stressful part, am I right??)

But now? It feels so natural to just show up and take it all in.

Do I make mistakes, still?

Absolutely. They still kinda suck, but when you're forced to figure it out yourself, that resilience stays with you for next time.

The truth is, that confidence didn’t happen overnight. I had to build it step by step. And once you do? It’s a game changer. It’s all about shifting to that mindset of β€œYes, I can.”

If you don’t have that confidence yet, don’t worryβ€”you’ll get there. (Just like exercising and building muscles...no one can do it for you. You have to earn it all on your own).

And once you do, the world opens up in ways you never imagined. 🌍πŸ’ͺ

What do you really want to do, but are nervous to do alone?
I'd love to hear! Shoot me an email back. πŸ’•

🌟Notes from the Fit Travel Trail

Was it a performance or a workout? How about BOTH!!

I took the stage yesterday in Sofia for another big Les Mills fitness event!

It will always be a highlight because of the team teaching, matching outfits, and how it makes me feel famous being on a stage (which was shaking and shifting on those burpees - yikes haha)

Rehearsals the day before the main event (I'm teaching in the green pants haha)

Off stage: lots of fun, dancing, and photos with instructor friends

Teaching one of my FAVORITE shoulder tracks

Bodypump crew

Teaching obliques (I love the challenge of this Copenhagen exercise)

It's my final week in Sofia and then up next...

  • Chicago for a wedding! (I'm still gushing on how I got my one-way flight for FREE using under 32,000 points - what a STEAL)
  • B-b-beach time in Cancun/Playa del Carmen (keeping my Spirit account points alive haha)
  • Stopping into DC for admin (did I mention so far, I'll only have a personal item?)
  • Home in Jersey visiting family and squeezing in some routine doctor visits (while I can)
  • Then my hella fun ADULT SUMMER CAMP! WAHOO!!

Then end of June brings more travel and adventure...but that's for a later time to disclose...

TRAVEL ALERT:

There was ANOTHER incident at Newark airport - It was another radar-related incident at EWR. Be cautious with future travel plans. You might want to utilize a different airport.

New project: Wannabe Wednesday

I often find myself inspired by words, quotes, and mantras. Recently, I've found myself attached to a few in particular.

I wanna be someone who:

πŸ‘‰Washers her dishes immediately after use

πŸ‘‰Jumps into action!

πŸ‘‰Takes her training seriously and commits to stretching

It inspired a new project on Insta (potential newsletter to follow)

I talked about credit card points in the last newsletter ->> CLICK HERE to re-read

Still on the fence?

You can fly one-way to Europe easily (just consider round-trip double the points).

I got the below email from point.me (search engine using points)

Want some more examples of how far points go and their monetary value? πŸ‘‡πŸ‘‡

πŸ‘‰ Try using the point.me search engine: CLICK HERE

REMEMBER: If you think cash back credit cards are still the better option, that's incorrect. Cash back gives you 1–2 cents for every dollar you spend, but with points, that same dollar can get you 5–10 cents (or more) in travelβ€”so you’re getting way more value for the same spending.

πŸ“ Caucasus Mountains β€” ever heard of them?

They’re in Georgia β€” no, not the state (the country). These peaks slice through a stunning, under-the-radar region packed with wild trails and ancient villages.

Why trek there?

  • It’s not touristy (yet)
  • Best time: Late June to early October
  • Hike, bike, ride horses β€” then toast with local wine

Bonus: Georgia's got it all:

  • Birthplace of wine
  • Tbilisi’s artsy, affordable charm
  • Mountains, beaches, deserts β€” all within hours

Need extra baggage while flying a budget airline? πŸ›„

βœ… Pro tip: Try adding it at the last minute before check out

Budget airlines are great because you can fly with just a personal item (no carry on/cabin bag) and it's super cheap. I love it because it encourages me to travel lighter (I def wanna save money).

If you DO need extra baggage, you'll typically add it when you first select your seat, right?
However, that might end up costing you MORE money than if you do it later.

See my real-life example below with RyanAir (FYI: they list "cabin bag" as their overhead carry on)

πŸ‘‡ πŸ‘‡ πŸ‘‡

I booked a one-way flight from Barcelona to Sofia in June.

β¬… The left side shows me selecting "regular fare" for my seat (the personal item + the extra cabin bag). I also needed to include a checked bag (which people typically add at the end, anyway).

➑ The right side, however, shows me selecting "basic far" (JUST the personal item). Then when I added my checked bag at the end, I also said "ah, yes, let me choose the option to add that extra cabin bag here).

Guess what...I saved 10 euros that way!

Isn't that wild? It's the same baggage!!

Airlines are just exploiting human psychology. Since the carry on bag isn't typically "extra" for non-budget airlines, most people select to add it upfront.

Do yourself a favor, and always play around with the different arrangements of options. You'll never know what you could find and it COULD save you some money!

Always on my mind: More money for more travel! It's often worth a little homework for those savings πŸ’Έ
