😈 Your #1 enemy if you travel often...

Hello Reader,
βœ‰οΈ Monday Momentum #22

Heya Fit Travel Tribe,
This edition of the Monday Momentum features a dizzying concept we may not realize is our enemy...

😴DECISION FATIGUE 😫

You know that brain fog when you've made 847 micro-decisions before noon?

Welcome to the world of travel where you're constantly navigating
πŸ‘‰
New transit lines
πŸ‘‰
Calculating airport arrival times
πŸ‘‰
Decoding menus in languages you don't speak, etc.

Also, this is a sneak peak into my expat life, where buying contact lenses becomes a 45-minute odyssey through Bulgarian Cyrillic.

The hidden cost of constant choosing is silently draining your mental energy for the stuff that actually matters.

I don't know about you, but it impacts my motivation for going to the gym, picking out healthy recipes, and stopping the Insta scrolling...

So today I'm giving you:

βœ… How to spot decision fatigue before it hijacks your day (see my contact lens saga below)
βœ…
The nutrition label shortcut that cuts through marketing BS (covered in my convergence section)
βœ…
One dead-simple rule for stress-free workouts (my YouTube discovery)
πŸ“
And why Sofia's expat gym scene is worth bookmarking

Let's goπŸ‘‡

🌟Notes from the Fit Travel Trail

πŸ‘‹ Hello from Serbia... AGAIN!

One month after flying Belgrade to Sofia, I'm back for a quick 4-night trip in Pirot. (Local pizza server says Belgrade considers this city more "Bulgarian" than Serbian.)

YO, the expat struggle is real: Finding new doctors, resources, and apparently... contact lenses that don't require a computer science degree.

Quick highlights from my decision overload:

  • πŸ” 45 minutes to buy contacts - 4 websites, Google Translate camera over my laptop, customer service emails
  • πŸ’Έ Saved $200 though! EU pricing beats 1-800 Contacts by miles (Bye, Felicia!)
  • πŸ“¦ Free pickup at local office since we don't have apartment mailboxes
  • πŸ‹οΈβ€β™€οΈ Back to basics for workouts - decision fatigue made me crave simple YouTube searches

Check out my Pirot fortress photos below!

Starting From Scratch: The Expat Gym Reality πŸ’ͺ

Being an expat means rebuilding your entire support system from zero. Major decisions like "where do I buy contacts?" suddenly become 45-minute research projects.

Whether you're settling in long-term or just passing through, smart travelers know these expat resources:

  • ➑ Facebook expat groups (ask locals and seasoned expats)
  • ➑ Google Maps reviews in English (filter for recent posts)
  • ➑ and....expat NEWSLETTERS! (like the one I just contributed to!)

Speaking of which - I just wrote a guest post breaking down Sofia's best expat-friendly gyms - from budget chains to boutique studios that actually speak English.

✈️πŸ’ͺWhere Travel & NUTRITION Converge

πŸ“ Any Foreign Grocery Store --- where nutrition labels become hieroglyphics πŸͺπŸ”

Reading nutrition labels is already annoying!!!!

Add a foreign language and suddenly that "healthy" protein bar becomes a sugar bomb in disguise.

βœ… Do the 5-Second Flip Test

❌ Don't get seduced by front-of-package claims!

That bar screaming "18g PROTEIN!"

πŸ‘‡

πŸ‘‡β€‹

...
...Might be hiding 34g of sugar on the back😰😰😰

Ready to decode like a pro?

1️⃣ First, use Google translate on your phone

Then check the following:

πŸ” Sugar first - anything over 15g per serving, think twice
πŸ“Š
Protein-to-sugar ratio - aim for 1:1 or better
πŸ“
Ingredient count - fewer = better (usually)

Sometimes the health benefits are worth an extra few minutes in the grocery aisle.

Use Your (FREE) Resources & Keep It Simple πŸ§˜β€β™€οΈ

Decision fatigue hits hardest when we over-complicate the basics. This weekend in Serbia, I ditched the "what workout, how long, which style" spiral.

My anti-decision formula:

🎯 One simple search: "yoga 30 min morning hip openers"
πŸ’»
One platform: YouTube (free, works everywhere)
⏰
One time limit: 30 minutes max

The video that saved my sanity: 30-Min Morning Yoga Hip Flow - perfect for hotel rooms and decision-fatigued brains.

🧠 Brain hack: Pre-decide your workout keywords before traveling.

πŸ‘‰ Mine are often "30 min," "morning," and one body focus.

Always on my mind: More money for more travel! It's often worth a little homework for those savings πŸ’Έ
